PHOENIX -

A man was hit by a car near 3rd Ave and Indian School Monday night, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man was crossing the street against the light when he was hit.

The windshield of the car shattered from the impact.

The driver of the car stopped and is not expected to be charged.

"That vehicle as it stands right now we believe had the right of way and had either entered the intersection when the light was green or yellow," said Lt. David Laslavic.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in extremely critical condition.

Police have shut down the intersection during the investigation.
