Thief starts fire during jewelry store heist

Posted: Updated:

Round Rock police are looking for a woman they say robbed a jewelry store and started a small fire in order to escape.

According to witnesses, the woman came into QT Jewelry in the 220 block of Sundance Parkway just before 2:00 p.m. on Monday.  The woman came in pretending to be a customer. The owner told FOX 7 that she was trying on a Rolex and a ring when she tried to make a run for it.

The owner locked the door and refused to let her out. That is when the suspect threatened to set the place on fire.

She then pulled out a container with gasoline in it and started a fire. There were three other customers in the store so the owner let the suspect out the back door and attended to the fire.

Nobody was injured but the suspect was able to flee the scene with the jewelry.

This is the first time in 11 years the store had been robbed.

The suspect is described as a middle aged Asian or Hispanic woman who was last seen wearing a red knit cap, glasses and a black jacket.
