An ASU student was found safe after he went missing while hiking in the Superstition Mountains on Saturday.

Family and friends feared the worst, but after searching for him all night and all day, the 21-year-old is safe.

Michael Kmit told his roommates he was going for a hike alone on Saturday.

When he didn't come home, they contacted Tempe police.

It was a terrible 24 hours for his family back in Minnesota, but Sunday night they got the news they'd been hoping for.

"We know that he's okay and he's been found," said Kathi Kmit, Michael Kmit's mom.

Kathi Kmit counted her blessings Sunday night, knowing that a search and rescue team found her son, Michael.

At around 7 p.m. Arizona time, she got the good news from a Pinal County deputy.

"He was about an hour up into the mountain, had gone way past whatever lost. They said he's okay but they won't know his full medical condition until they get him down out off the mountain," said Kathi Kmit.

Kathi Kmit learned that her son was missing Saturday morning after Tempe police located the business students' car at the base of the Peralta Canyon Trail.

She's looking forward to hearing his voice.

"Relief, just can't wait to talk to him," said Kathi Kmit.

Pinal County deputies say they were able to walk Michael Kmit down the mountain.

He was in good condition and was able to go straight home to Tempe.
