APD investigates attempted sexual assault in SW Austin

Austin police are investigating an attempted sexual assault at an apartment complex in southwest Austin this morning. It happened at the Legacy Apartments on La Cresada off of Davis Lane.

Police say the suspect entered the residence and attempted to sexually assault the woman. After a brief struggle the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but that her injuries are not severe.

Police searched the area for a couple hours this morning with assistance from canine units and an APD helicopter. Nearby Mills Elementary School was put on lockdown for nearly two hours during that time. The last report to police was that a man matching the suspect's description was seen running toward Dick Nichols Park, north of the apartment complex.

The suspect is described as a light skinned man in his late 20s to early 30s and was about 5'8" to 5'10" wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
