MTA update for Monday morning service

MTA update for Monday

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it is offering close to normal service as possible for the Monday morning rush hour.

New York City subways and buses and most of the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad networks will be running as usual, and efforts to restore other services continue around the clock. Delays on some services are possible, so customers should always check the MTA website at mta.info for the most up-to-date information before beginning their journeys.

Details of each agency's service for Monday morning are below:

New York City Transit:

Subways and buses are expected to run a normal Monday morning service. Subway lines that were running local instead of express will all be restored to express service. Bus routes that were running with shorter buses instead of longer articulated buses will be returned to articulated bus service.

Access-A-Ride paratransit service will also be back to normal.

Long Island Rail Road:

Long Island Rail Road will offer near-normal service on nine of its 11 branches, including its City Zone. The Babylon, Port Washington, Port Jefferson, Far Rockaway, Long Beach, Hempstead, West Hempstead and Oyster Bay Branches will all be running at near normal departure and arrival times.

The Ronkonkoma Branch will not run east of Ronkonkoma, although buses will be provided to Greenport. The Montauk Branch will not run east of Speonk.

Ten of the LIRR's 143 regularly scheduled trains will be cancelled for the Monday morning rush hour. Customers can find them by referring to Modified Schedule 1 at <http://mta.info/lirr/Timetable/Modified.htm> on the MTA web site.

While plowing efforts continue overnight at station parking lots in Suffolk County, parking is expected to be limited in many areas. Customers should plan on using "Kiss & Ride" by getting a lift to their LIRR station in the morning.

Metro-North Railroad:

Normal weekday schedules will be in effect on the entire Hudson and Harlem lines, as well as on the New Haven Line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.

Between New Haven and Stamford, Metro-North is prepared to provide about half of its normal Monday morning rush hour service. Train service will resume on the Danbury and New Canaan branches, but not the Waterbury branch.

Exact schedules are still being developed, but will take into account the difficult road conditions that continue to exist east of Westport, which is expected to depress ridership. Schedules will be posted at <http://mta.info/mnr> later this evening.

Bridges and Tunnels:

All crossings are operating normally.

Interagency Assistance:

MTA agencies are assisting each other as well as other agencies to help recover from the storm.

New York City Transit Buses and MTA Bus is sending nine heavy-duty pay loaders to Islip for snow removal. Bridges and Tunnels sent 12 plows and six wreckers to Suffolk County, where they plowed 20 miles of roadway and rescued and removed more than 50 stranded vehicles, including seven buses.

New York City Transit Subways sent two shifts of 45 workers each to clear Metro-North train yards in Bridgeport and New Haven. The subway system also sent two snow blowers by truck to North White Plains, where Metro-North put them to work clearing tracks on its system.
