Commuters in Connecticut are going to have a hard time getting to work Monday.
The Governor is urging all non-essential state employees to stay home Monday. Not only is the state dealing with cleaning up, in some cases, 40 inches of snow from the roads – but Metro-North train service is partially suspended.
Commuters in Connecticut need to figure out how to get to Stamford if they want to take the train Monday.
Connecticut is digging out from the blizzard and while most of the roads in Fairfield County are all but clear --- the train tracks are not.
Service along Metro-North's New Haven line remains suspended Sunday between Stamford and New Haven and on the branch lines -- leaving many wondering about Monday morning's commute into Grand Central.
"I've got to go to work tomorrow morning and my wife has to go visit a doctor in the city (New York) on Park Avenue, so I just wanted to come over and buy a ticket – but still I know the trains aren't running."
Jim Garvin lives in Darien, an area hit with almost two feet of snow.
As of now, trying to catch a train into the city people here have to get to Stamford. Something this couple didn't realize when they came here to hop a train into Manhattan to catch a show later tonight.
"The highways are plowed, everything else is plowed – so I guess we should have checked the news," said Kristen Templin.
Platforms at Stamford were no more crowded than usual Sunday. Officials are still warning commuters to carpool and brace for some crowds in the morning.
Metro-North now says they plan to restore about half of all service to and from New Haven and Bridgeport by Monday morning.
Since many roads remain closed in the New Haven area, many train crews are having difficulty reporting to New Haven yard in order to operate train service. With parts of the line still buried under four feet of snow, there is also limited track and yard availability.
