NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD's Air Sea Rescue helicopter was able to find kayakers in distress and divers were able to rescue them from Jamaica Bay in Queens Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say they received a call around 3:09 p.m. of two men who fell out a kayak in Jamaica Bay. Upon arrival one of the divers saw the second kayaker, a 32-year-old man, swimming to a boat that was anchored in the bay.

The victim was transported by helicopter to the Aviation Base at Floyd Bennett Field where EMS took him to Kings County Hospital where he is being treated for hypothermia.

Police say the Detective John Kenny heard the distress call about a kayaker in the Bay, put on a wet suit and swam out 200 yards to the boat to help rescue the second male kayaker from the anchored boat.

The rescue helicopter took both the victim and Detective Kenny to shore where EMS took the rescued kayaker to Jamaica Hospital and Kenny to Lutheran Hospital.

Both were treated for hypothermia and are listed in stable condition.
