NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
New York City didn't get as hit hard as some suburbs but there was still some cleanup to be done.
Mayor Bloomberg said the city dodged a bullet but that doesn't mean people aren't dealing with a snowy mess.
Most parts of New York City saw about a foot of snow. In the Bronx, many sidewalks and streets are still icy and cars are still buried in.
Well into the night New Yorkers continued to dig out after the big storm.
Ice is basically everywhere -- in the streets, sidewalks and on many cars throughout the city's boroughs.
In Riverdale, snow plows buried many cars. Angel Mercado's car has been out here all night and it's now encased in ice.
"I've been out here for about 30 minutes, I need to get it warmed up," said Mercado.
Aside from brooms, others used shovels and whatever they could get their hands on to get out.
"No shovel, some brush – yeah it takes time."
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we saw several side streets desperately needing a plow. Mayor Bloomberg says all city streets should be clear by the end of the day.
"We should get to tertiary streets by the end of the day but message is stay off the roads."
And as many residents spent the afternoon digging out -- others spent the afternoon enjoying the snow and actually wishing for more.
"Wish it was like this every day," said one excited young sledder. "No school day every day!"
If you haven't dug out your car out you still have time. Parking meter rules as well as alternate side of the street parking rules have been suspended for Saturday and Sunday – but come Monday, get ready.
