Movie critic, Rex Reed, isn't giving actress, Melissa McCarthy, any compliments.
"I'm shocked by his review, to be honest," commented Louis Black, who writes movie reviews for The Austin Chronicle.
He says Reed calling McCarthy "tractor-sized" and a "female hippo" have nothing to do with the movie.
"I think the most basic rule when you review a movie is that you're reviewing the movie. That's your job," said Black. "To make fun of an actress because of her size or because of her weight, call her names, is always embarrassing and ludicrous and in this case it's particularly...wrong because she's so brilliant in the role."
Reed's review goes on by saying McCarthy is "a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success."
Black's critique is quite different.
Black said, "I didn't like the overall movie. I thought it didn't work as well as it might have, but whenever she's on screen, you can't take your eyes off of her."
Critics all over the web are sharing their disgust and disappointment.
"I think, unfortunately, he's really embarrassed himself," Black said. "Every sweet ounce on that body, she uses in one way or another...and to make fun of her for that is really, I think, sad. I think it's like making fun of a black actor or actress for being black."
There are two more words reed forgot in his review..."Oscar-nominated."
During an interview with "Good Housekeeping" last fall, McCarthy said she doesn't want to pass on body image issues to her daughters.
She goes on to say she "doesn't really drink soda or have a sweet tooth...plus, "I don't really know why I'm not thinner than I am."
