EWING, N.J. -
A 21-year-old Trenton man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a murder committed early Sunday morning, police say.
Keyon Powell, of Cummings Avenue, in Trenton, was taken into custody Tuesday night and charged with murder and the unlawful possession of a weapon, according to a news release. A Mercer County Superior Court judge set his bail at $1 million.
Investigators say Danielle Schrenk, 21, of Hamiltion, was shot after she and three others drove to Ewing Township to buy marijuana from Powell on Sunday.
Schrenk and the others met with Powell around 12:15 a.m., and he got in their car to negotiate a deal, but the four in the car took the drug and told Powell to get out without payment, according to investigators.
Once out of the car, Powell was seen pulling a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband, police said. He then fired one round into the street and a second into the back of the departing vehicle.
Investigators say the second shot hit Schrenk in the back, fatally wounding her. She was taken by ambulance to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where she died Monday morning. No one else in the car was hit.
The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information should call police at 609-882-1313.
