TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Tucson City Council has voted unanimously to require background checks on all gun sales on city owned or managed property.

The council voted on the issue Tuesday afternoon.

Some gun rights advocates protested with taped mouths and neon-green signs that criticized to move.

Council members told The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/11oaQ6v) that it was incumbent for city officials to pass common-sense laws, even if it complicates a few gun sales.

Some gun-rights groups say the ordinance will accomplished little. They claim it's mostly symbolic and will have little impact on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals.
