School District Warns Parents About 'Speed Dreaming' Dangers

NEWTOWN, Pa. -

Teenagers seem to get a kick out of it, but an alarming trend has one area school district warning parents about its dangers.

The trend, known as "speed dreaming" has kids racing to be the first to blackout by hyperventilating, then holding their breath until they pass out.

It's also known as "the fainting game."

Despite its dangers, young people across the country are doing it, and they're posting videos of it on websites such as YouTube.

A few incidents of "speed dreaming" last week prompted the Council Rock School District to send a letter to parents, after the district says a few students tried it at the elementary school and at Richboro Middle School.

But it's not just peaking the interest of elementary and middle school students. One high school student tells FOX 29's Dave Kinchen even high school students are talking about it.

Parents we spoke to say they're glad to be talking about the risks now before someone gets seriously hurt.
