Golden Gloves is giving a local mother and son some practice time and quality time together.
Its mother's day every day for Maria Lopez who has raised the bar in raising her 17-year-old son Issac.
"Our schedules are crazy. It's something we can do together. It's our quality time which I guess is different than most," said Maria Lopez.
"Like she said this is our quality time this is what we do and we love it," said Issac Lopez.
Maria is a 35-year-old single mom in hotel management. Issac is a junior at Akins who is blossoming in the ring under the supervision of fit pit owner Art Cardenas and the watchful eye of his corner mom.
"When I go into the ring I like to be real calm the feeling is real crazy inside the adrenaline, the rush but when she is by my side everything calms down," said Issac.
"Before he came to me he only had two bouts of course we trained him he has worked hard he is undefeated since he came to this gym," said Cardenas.
Golden Gloves has given Issac a chance to showcase his raw talent and yes like any mom, Maria is worried he might get hurt.
"It's not much different than football was or something like that but I'm mom I'm always going to worry about that," she said.
