The Austin School District is adding single-sex campuses.
AISD board members voted Monday night to approve single-sex program designs for Garcia and Pearce middle schools.
They also voted in favor of the 'school for young men' proposal, starting in the 2014-15 school year.
The school for young men will be an all-boys campus similar to the Ann Richards School for young women.
The district hopes that by converting Garcia and Pearce middle schools to all-boy and all-girl campuses, the schools can get back up to meeting state academic standards.
