Downpour of rain in Arizona sets new records

Posted: Updated:

It was a rainy weekend as showers swept through the area. For the most part, the rain stuck around, letting up at times, but was enough to keep the roads slick.

Arizona's steady downpour of rain on Saturday set records.

The 1.18 inches that fell at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport broke the previous record of 0.43 inches set for that day same day in 1985.

Tucson International Airport saw .71 inches of rain.

That broke the record of 0.67 inches set on that day in 1985.

Overall, Phoenix saw between 1 to 1 ½ inches of rain Saturday.

The metro area faces a 40 percent to 60 percent chance of showers from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning as a new storm heads in from the west.

There's a 60 percent chance of rain expected Monday afternoon in metro Phoenix.

The weather is expected to clear up by Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to reach the low 70s by week's end.
