Yassine brothers sentenced to federal prison

Posted: Updated:

Two brothers, who once ran several night clubs in downtown Austin, were sentenced to time federal prison for their roles in a money laundering scheme.

Hussein Ali "Mike" Yassine, 40, was sentenced to 12 years and a $60,000 fine. Hadi Ali Yassine, 36, was sentenced to 5 years and a $30,000 fine.

U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks also ordered both defendants to three years of probation after being released.

On Oct. 12, 2012, a jury convicted Mike and Hadi of one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. Mike was convicted of three counts of money laundering and Hadi was convicted of two counts.

The jury found that in 2008 and 2009, the brothers used several businesses including night clubs to launder over $200,000 in cash, which they believed to be proceeds of narcotics trafficking.
