Police make arrest in 2009 theft from elderly case

Posted: Updated:

Austin police have arrested a man wanted in a 2009 theft case.

Police say 57-year-old Enrique Mojica was hired by an 84-year-old man to paint his house. The victim gave Mojica $1,800 in the form of check for materials.

Police say the work was never completed and despite numerous attempts to get the money back, Mojica never returned the money.

The victim reported the incident to police in April 2009.

Mojica was indicted for theft from elderly, a third degree felony.

On Friday, Mojica was arrested without incident in Austin for a warrant. Police say more charges are pending.

Detectives say Mojica is a suspect in another investigation where the elderly was the victim. Police say he was using the alias Joe Marin.

Detectives believe there may be other victims. If you are a victim, you can make a report by calling 311 or 512-974-5750.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police at 512-974-5584.
