Florida city allows mini pig at center of online controversy

Posted: Updated:

(WJBK) -- A south Florida family is going hog wild after a doctor's prescription helped them keep their pet pig.

The mini Juliana pig named 'Twinkle' is being used as an emotional therapy animal for the Ray family's young son, Kason, who has Down's syndrome.

The community of Coral Springs, Fla., however, has strict local ordinances that prohibit the keeping of pigs as pets.

But after an online petition at Change.org, Yahoo reports that city attorneys in January allowed the Rays to keep the pig.

The Rays doctor recommended the pet due to Kason's father's allergies that wouldn't allow for other animals like dogs and cats.
