Visit rescued sea lions, otters and turtles at the Shedd Aquarium

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A perfect way to escape the cold is a trip to Chicago's world famous Shedd Aquarium. Visit the rescued sea lions, sea otters and a turtle that has been in the Shedd family since 1988.

Executive Vice President Ken Ramirez joined Good Day Chicago to introduce Tanner the sea lion.

Tanner was rescued from the Bonneville Dam, which is on the Columbia River in Oregon State. Ramirez said the sea lion was considered a "bad boy," because he was stealing an endangered species of salmon.

Ramirez said the only option local authorities had was to euthanize Tanner, until the Shedd stepped forward and offered him a home.

The sea otter habitat is another popular area to watch these acrobatic animals play. Cayucos and Mari were also rescued.

Esther the turtle, estimated to be 43-years-old, has been part of the Shedd family since 1988. She was actually hit by a car before coming to the aquarium. But now, she is doing better than ever.
