State Police Identify Victim, Locate Driver In Fatal I-95 Hit-And-Run

PHILADELPHIA -

Investigators have identified the victim killed in a Friday night hit-and-run crash along I-95 in Philadelphia.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, 65-year-old Gerald L. Martin died as a result of the Friday night crash. Martin lived in Philadelphia, investigators said.

State police say they have also located the driver involved in the crash. According to state police, Ward Bennett, 45, of Lumberton, New Jersey was operating the tractor-trailer involved in the crash.

The tractor-trailer was found with the help of the Lumberton Police Department in New Jersey and towed back to Pennsylvania for further investigation.

State police say the accident happened along I-95 near mile marker 26 just before midnight when a tractor-trailer struck a pedestrian on the roadway. Investigators say the tractor-trailer fled the scene heading northbound past the Cottman Avenue exit.

State police ask that anyone with information on the incident call investigators at 215-560-6200.
