Tuesday morning Travis County commissioners voted not to ban gun shows on county property.
Commissioners had brought up the issue last week. However, they voted to honor existing gun show contracts. Additionally, they voted to require the expo center director to brief commissioners on contracts who present high risks. Also, they voted to ask expo center staff to talk to vendors about gun issues and concerns addressed from the public.
Commissioners put the issue of banning gun shows on the agenda last week after a man brought it up during citizen communication in December. In addition, judge Sam Biscoe says he received 200 emails in support.
The Travis County Expo Center hosted nine gun shows last year.
However, last Friday Biscoe told FOX 7 that after consulting with the county attorney, he learned they do not have the authority to regulate gun shows. Additionally, Attorney General Greg Abbott is threatening legal action against commissioners if the measure is approved.
