A controversial item on the auction block yields over $2,000 for a baby needing an operation.

Michael Cargill, the owner of Central Texas gun works held the auction for one of his employees' 11-month-old baby.

The child has a heart condition and funding is needed so the baby can receive an operation.

The item that was up for bid is a bushmaster rifle, the same type of weapon used by the shooter in the Connecticut elementary school shooting.

Bidding started at $1,200, but one Austinite put in $2,750 for the rifle, which is highly desired at this time.

"Right now very high demand because this is one of the weapons that the current administration is looking at banning," Cargill said.

Cargill says before the winning bidder gets their hands on the gun they must first pass a background check.
