Victim Who Was Shot While Sleeping Speaks Out

PHILADELPHIA -

Police want to find the man who sent bullets flying into homes as people slept early Friday, hitting one man hit in his own bed.

FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser talked to the victim later in the day and filed this report from the city's Wynnefield section.

"It came through and hit my shoulder right here," said 22-year-old Oliver Robinson, who was fast asleep in his third-floor bedroom at 53rd and Euclid early Friday morning.

That's when there was a burst of gunfire outside.

"Do, do, do, do, do ... then I got hit and I bounced up," Robinson said mimicking the gunfire.

Robinson says he felt a pain in his right shoulder. His brother saw the blood and told him he'd been shot.

"I got shot right here," he said, showing reporters his bandaged up wounds. "It's actually like three open wounds right here."

It turns out Robinson was the innocent victim of some punk with what police say was an assault weapon.

Seventeen shots were fired into the corner home and the house next door just after 2 a.m.

The high-caliber bullets pierced windows, walls and crashed into the brick exterior.

Robinson was treated at the hospital for his shoulder wound and released, lucky to be alive.

"I survived and I'm lucky. Some people might call that brave. I don't see how that's called brave. I'll just call it lucky," Robinson told Schratwieser.

Robinson's neighbor, Al Lanier, was asleep in a rear bedroom when the gun shots crashed through his walls.

"I just jumped to the floor. I'm just sitting there praying, please let this stop," Lanier told FOX 29's Steve Keeley on "Good Day Philadelphia."

"Sounded like a war zone out here," another neighbor said. "Like war rifle or something. It's sad cause that person and that gun is still out here."

"The police gotta catch this guy," Robinson said. "This is making this city less fun to live in. Now I am about to move because I can't take this."

Police are still searching for the gunman. Police say 10 people live in Robinson's three-story residence. Five people live in the house next door. Police don't know yet if the gunman was targeting someone else in Robinson's house.

Mayor Michael Nutter called the gunman "a nutcase" and demanded that action be taken soon to get assault weapons off the streets.
