Police say a 22-year-old West Philadelphia man was shot inside his bedroom with an assault weapon early Friday morning.
It happened around 2 a.m. on the 5300 block of Euclid Street in Wynnefield.
Police said the shooter was on the basketball court of a playground that is raised above street level and fired off at least 17 shots in probably less than three seconds.
Those shots didn't just hit the homes and stop. Some hit brick and ricocheted all over the street, while others went through windows.
One of those shots that went through the glass windows struck a man who was sleeping. The man was hit in the shoulder, and he's now in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Police said there are two boarding homes at the corner of Euclid with 10 people asleep in one home and five in another, so it's fortunate none of the other 14 people were injured.
The gun was probably a rapid-fire AR-15 assault rifle, police said. They're not sure if the victim was targeted or if the shooter was firing randomly.
FOX 29's Steve Keeley filed the above video report from the scene Friday morning.
