Can a basketball team truly be at a crossroads just two games into the conference schedule?
If it's a young UT Men's basketball squad fresh off blowing a late 10 point lead to West Virginia, the answer's yes. Wednesday's 57-53 overtime loss to the Mountaineers was the Longhorns' third in the last four games, and it had head coach Rick Barnes questioning his team's toughness afterward.
"We use the term a lot - 'phony tough guy'," Barnes said. Toughness is simply discipline…you do your job."
"I'm getting upset right now with it and I'm upset because we work too hard and the way we're playing right now is absolutely unacceptable. Nothing hurts more than when you watch the other team want the game more than you. That's a killer."
Barnes' players may be getting the message. The Horns suffered an 86-79 overtime loss in Waco to begin conference play.
"We didn't finish the game at Baylor," said UT sophomore forward Jonathan Holmes. "We didn't finish the game tonight. At the end of the day you just gotta go get the ball no matter if you hit the guy or not."
