Is an announcement on a merger between Tempe based US Airways and American Airlines just hours away?
Not quite.
American Airlines directors will be meeting Wednesday, but no big decision is expected to come out of that meeting.
But the American Airlines CEO told employees a few days ago that a decision would be made in "a matter of weeks."
So what would the average air traveler expect if US Airways and American did merge?
"I think you will see some increase in rates, although it's not going to be catastrophic, cause there is still Delta and all the other airliners are out there so there is still competition," says Tim McCulloch, aviation expert.
"US Airways is known for its higher fees than American, so it will be interesting if US Airways moves to American's fee structure as far as checking on extra bags. So it will be interesting to see if there is any change in that."
The pilots unions for both American and US Airways have already approved any possible merger.
