Austin Police have charged a woman after they say she struck a 1-year-old girl she was babysitting.
Police say Karen Mejia-Pineda was running an unlicensed daycare at the Runnymeade Apartments on Rutland Drive. The mother dropped the victim off at the daycare, where Mejia-Pineda was watching five other children.
When the mother picked the child up at Mejia-Pineda's home, she noticed purple marks around her eyes. She also found a hand impression on the child's back. The child was taken to Dell Children's Hospital for treatment.
Mejia-Pineda told police that she was "tired from watching the kids that day" and "slapped the victim" to make her stop crying.
Mejia-Pineda was charged with injury to a child, a third degree felony.
