St. Edward's forward Chris Wacker is the latest family member to shine on the Central Texas sports stage.
"Every time we travel on the road, almost always a fan grabs me and wants to know is that Mike Wacker's son? Is that Jim Wacker's grandson?" St. Edward's coach Andre Cook said.
The answer is yes. His father was an all-SWC power forward for the Longhorns in the 1980's.
"He has some old tapes that I used to watch and still watch and he was a heck of a player," Chris Wacker said of his father.
The late Jim Wacker, Chris' grandfather, won two national football titles next door at Southwest Texas!
Chris, a starting forward for the Hilltoppers, obviously followed dad's lead.
"Growing up, basketball was it, starting with my little brothers with our Fisher Price goal in the backyard," Chris Wacker recalled.
Mike has spent the last 23 years coaching Converse Judson. Chris apparently picked up a thing or 200 during that time.
"He is ultra-intelligent on the court," Coach Cook said. "He seems to always be in the right spot."
Mike's obviously a proud pop! Despite his busy coaching schedule, he routinely makes the road trip up north to see most of his son's home games at St. Edward's!
"It is so fun,"Mike Wacker said. "It's such a blessing for our whole family. My mom makes most of the games as well. She lives in San Marcos now. And you know, I know my dad's up there smiling and enjoying watching his grandson and it's just a neat deal."
