Amazon To Open Distribution Center In NJ

Posted: Updated:

The world's biggest online retailer plans to open a distribution center in New Jersey, creating hundreds of full-time jobs.

Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship items for customers at the center in Robbinsville, which is near Trenton. The company plans to take occupancy in 2014.

The retailer will be eligible for state economic assistance grants totaling millions on its investment, which is expected to exceed $200 million.

Amazon announced last year that it had planned to build two warehouses in New Jersey.

The company also agreed to collect 7% sales tax on purchases made in New Jersey starting next summer. Officials estimated that would bring the state an estimated $30 million to $40 million a year in new revenue.
