Man charged with shooting at Club Bayou

Posted: Updated:

Austin Police have charged a man after they say he fired several shots in a downtown Austin club.

Police say on Jan. 6, 27-year-old Octavius Ratliff was searching for his girlfriend's cell phone at Club Bayou in the 500 block of east 6th Street. Ratliff became angry when the bouncer at the door told him that no one had seen the phone.

Police say a witness stated Ratliff pulled a gun from his pants and shot several rounds into the ceiling of the crowded club. Everyone inside the club ran out in a panic.

As everyone was evacuating the club a bouncer grabbed Ratliff and the two began fighting outside the club. When police arrived Ratliff took off running and tried to flee in a Chevy Trailblazer.

Ratliff was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying weapon and deadly conduct.
