Arizona sophomore running back Ka'Deem Carey had a protection order issued against him stemming from an incident before Christmas, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the protection order hadn't been made public.
Carey was issued the protection order after allegedly being involved in an incident Dec. 23.
No other details were available. Online searches in city and county records for Carey's name showed no pending court dates.
Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne and football coach Rich Rodriguez issued statements Sunday saying they were aware of the situation and will assist authorities in any way possible.
A consensus All-America, Carey was the FBS rushing leader this season with 1,929 yards and had a school-record 23 touchdowns.
