It's the first snow of the year in Central Texas. The Hill Country woke up to snow on the ground this morning and many took advantage of it before it disappeared.
We didn't see it here but that didn't stop one Austin family from having a little fun in the snow.
The Davis family only needed this much snow on the ground to make a morning adventure out of it. With no sleds ever needed in Central Texas a laundry basket just had to do, and that is just fine with little phoebe and her sister.
Dad Jeff says when he found out the Hill Country woke up to snow. He just had to bring the girls here, all the way from Austin.
"We heard it snowed here in Fredericksburg, so I brought the kids. And we said let's find some snow and let's do it," Davis said.
Before rising temperatures melted all the remaining snow there was one more thing to check off that list, a snowball fight.
"We wish it were more but it's good we like it," Davis said.
It was the same for the Erikson family, who were visiting the Hill Country from Louisiana.
"We didn't get any snow last year and the kids have been crying for snow," said Roark Erikson.
Friday morning 4-year-old Nena got her wish.
"I think it was a little bit of snow."
It was a bit of a surprise for mom, who thought their snow days were left back in New Mexico days ago.
"Well we were expecting warmer weather here in Texas, and we woke up to snow this morning," said Janice Erikson. "We had to get out and walk through it and their shoes and gloves are wet but they're having a great time."
Even after the snow melted the snow remained slick. The good news Fredericksburg police said there were no accidents on their roads this morning.
