Man charged with firing shots from apartment balcony

Posted: Updated:

Authorities have charged a man they say fired a shotgun multiple times from his apartment balcony just after midnight on New Year's Eve.

Travis County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of shots fired at the Renaissance apartment complex located in the 1400 block of Renaissance Court.

Upon arrival deputies observed a suspect later identified as 43-year-old Joel Brian Webber firing a shotgun from the patio of his apartment. Deputies say he fired 14 shots, striking a vehicle in the parking lot four times before he was detained.

According to court paperwork, Webber admitted to being drunk and told deputies that he was shooting "cuz everyone was shooting."

He was charged with deadly conduct, a third degree felony.
