Two people are dead after the motorcycle they were riding crashed. One of the victims was a child.
According to Austin police at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday evening two people riding a motorcycle, it's believed they were a father and son, were riding through the neighborhood which they lived in, when the motorcycle crashed into the back of a parked car.
Officers tell us the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the boy died at Dell Children's Hospital.
Forensic officers are here trying to determine exactly how this happened and how fast the driver was going.
Officers say neither were wearing helmets.
"On a motorcycle and no helmets unfortunately you don't have to go very fast to cause bad things to happen," said Lt. Doug Dukes of the Austin Police Department.
In Texas, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to ride on a motorcycle without a helmet.
These were the first and second traffic fatalities of the New Year in Austin.
