NEW YORK -- Are you one of those people who sets a lofty resolution for the new year and then falls short of meeting your goal?

It's that time of year -- crowds from around the world gathering in Times Square to watch the ball drop and ring in 2013.

So we asked some what their resolutions are.

"I want to be rich in 2013," said Jenny Calagos of Sydney, Australia.

Keith Stienen of Belgium said, "I want to lose weight."

While Melvin Piper of Broken Arrow, Okla. said, "Work out more maybe."

"Make better friends, lose weight, keep goin' to the gym," adds Maisa Marques of Brazil.

Patricia Nevola of Hamilton, GA: "I want to lose 20 pounds."

Psychologist Dr. Michael "Woody" Woodward says the new year is a great time to hit the reset button on your life and focus on achieving goals you keep putting off, but he warns not to set your sites too high -- make realistic goals.

"Most resolutions are, typically, vague, lofty, generic and have no teeth. So, instead of making a new year's resolution, what about making a 'you' plan for 2013? Or a plan for yourself to actually accomplish something Decide on a destination, make it simple and reasonable and start thinking about what are the things I can do to get myself there."

Dr. Woodward says when making a resolution you should make it genuine and don't hold yourself back from actively pursuing what you are striving for.

"You need to make a list of the activities that you actually have to do to make it happen. Two, you got to determine on the barriers or requirements to getting those activities done. Then, put them on a schedule and set some checkpoints along the way to hold yourself accountable."

Dr. Woodward recommends setting a reachable goal that you can attain by taking small steps and have a support network full of friends and family.
