Organizers for Austin's New Year's Eve celebration are moving forward with their preparations despite a little rain falling in the area.
Event organizers say they will continue to monitor the weather, but at this time tonight's planned festivities at Auditorium Shores will proceed as planned. Organizers worked through the rain and fog this morning, setting up three separate performance stages and other activities that are set to kick off the celebration at 5:00 p.m.
The family-friendly and alcohol-free event will feature a lot of activities for children, as well as a fireworks display beginning at 10:00 p.m. to ring in the New Year, according to organizers. Organizers advise that attendees bring a poncho, umbrella and some rain boots with them, just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse.
The Austin Fire Department would like to remind city residents that fireworks are prohibited from being set off in Austin city limits.
