Philly Preps For 1st Measurable Snow of Season

PennDot crews spent Friday brining area interstates. It's the first line of protection against the forecast  snow.

At the Hunting Park maintenance yard PennDot's   army of trucks were loaded with salt.

Crews spent the day charging and checking the trucks--arming them with spreaders and plows to battle an expected  2 to 4 inches of snow.

Places that easily ice like interstate bridges and overpasses will be among the first areas salted.

"We are geared up. We are  ready. We have salt,  we have the plows on and  all operators ready," explained PennDot's Steve Niknam.

Some grocery stores are already feeling a small impact from the possible snow. PathMark shoppers filled  their bags with goodies to weather the storm.

At Independence Mall the threat of snow wasn't enough to scare off tourists. For some,  the only fear---will the weekend weather  impact their travel plans to a warmer locale.

I'm getting ready to head to Miami on Sunday," smiled Mike Rufo from Oakland. "
It would be  nice to not get delayed."

PennDot says they'll have 400-trucks salting the five county area to help keep drivers safe. Crews will also continue working after the storm to tend to any icing problems.
