PHILADELPHIA -
Students from L.P. Hill, Whittier and Duckrey elementary schools brought handwritten letters to Mayor Michael Nutter's office Friday in response to the school district's plan to close 37 schools.
The community is asking the mayor to enforce the "good neighbors" policy, which taxes large non-profits when they use land for commercial purposes.
They believe this will bring revenue to the struggling school district. The kids just want to stay in their schools.
Nutter was not in the office, so parents will go back next week to try to deliver them again.
A spokesman for the mayor's office says Nutter understands this is a difficult time and urges families to attend meetings to discuss future plans.
