Capital Metro and the Austin Police Department have teamed up to provide free rides to prevent drinking and driving on New Year's Eve.
CapMetro will offer free fares starting at 6 p.m. on all Capital Metro services, including MetroRail which will operate on its normal weekday schedule.
In addition to bus service throughout downtown, CapMetro will offer five Night Owl routes that travel to and from 6th Street and Congress and neighborhoods throughout town, beginning at mid-night through 3 a.m., every 30 minutes.
Families may also ride Capital Metro's buses to and from the City of Austin's New Year's Eve celebration at Auditorium Shores. Routes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 stop near the event.
