Art gallery co-owner jumps to her death on UES

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police say the co-owner of a Manhattan art gallery was the well-dressed woman found dead on an Upper East Side street early Saturday morning.

54-year-old Marijana Bego was found around 6:20 a.m. lying in the middle of Madison Avenue between 73nd and 73rd Streets after jumping from the roof of the five-story building where her Bego-Ezair Gallery was located.

According to the New York Post, Bego so badly injured her legs that officers who first responded to the scene thought she was the victim of a hit-and-run accident

EMS took Bego, originally from Switzerland, to Lenox-Hill Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities believe Bego, who had operated the posh art house since 1997, committed suicide though they found no note.
