NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The rig that crashed with others vehicles caught fire and caused chain-reaction that killed a woman on the Long Island Expressway on December 19, came from trucking company with a bad safety record.

According to Newsday, Jewell Transportation Inc. in Vermont has been cited at least 23 times for unsafe driving since 2011.

Federal transportation records show that the Jewell Transportation's fleet tracks have been involved in several accidents, including a fatal crash last July in upstate New York.

The tractor-trailor collided with several other vehicles and caused a fatal 35-car pileup on the LIE, killing 68-year-old Christa Zepf of Blue Point and left another driver, 57-year-old Robert Murphy of Lloyd Harbor critically injured.

The chain-reaction of fiery crashes left a total of 33 people injured. Authorities have not indicated yet if the accident was the truck's driver's fault.

An attorney for the trucking company and the driver says they are cooperating with the investigation.
