Acne Is Rough For A Teenager; Try Having It At Age 40

Posted: Updated:

Pimples can be rough for a teenager, but for grown women in their 40s and 50s it can be downright devastating.

Dr. Victoria Cirillo, a dermatologist, sees it all -- women leading high-stress lives or nearing the change of life -- panicking over pimples.

Cirillo says adults can make their acne worse.

"People will go to the store and buy every single product they can find on the shelves. And they put everything on their face, they irritate, they're scrubbing their face and they're actually creating acne."

Cirillo says some of our food and the environment can also add fuel to the fire.

According to Cirillo, the good news is that a lot of over-the-counter products these days are really enough to get the zits.

Many products, such as topicals and antibiotics, are well improved for even the most sensitive skin to tolerate.

There's also the new stuff.

One patient we met was in the midst of an eight-week treatment that blasts away the acne and stops it from coming back for many months.
