A graduation ceremony was held at the State Capitol for 74 new troopers.
The class of recruits marched into the house chamber this morning which was packed with friends and family members.
Before the new troopers took the oath of office, Governor Rick Perry and DPS Director Steve McCraw challenged them to remember their training and to honor their call to duty.
"You have the training and the tools whether it's the vehicles, whether the bullet proof vests, all the things you need to be successful, there's not question about it, but never forget this, your most important tool is you brain, judgment and common sense, never lost that and keep that in mind," McCraw said.
The new troopers will report to duty stations across Texas in the coming weeks and spend the first six months in on-the-job training.
