PHOTOS: First winter storm of the season

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The first major winter storm of the season has arrived. So far only parts of Chicago have seen less than 1.0" of snow. O'Hare should receive measurable snow before midnight ending the snow drought of 291 days.

The NWS in Romeoville has issued a Winter Storm Warning for ALL of the Chicago area until 3:00am. The combination of accumulating snow and wind gusts up to 50mph.

Periods of snow continue throughout the night with 1-2" of accumulations, possibly a bit more near the Wisconsin border and parts of northwest Indiana.

The other big part of the story will be the cold. By Friday morning, temperatures will dip into the upper teens with wind chills in the single digits.

The chances of a white Christmas remain low if this storm produces only a couple of inches of snow. After tomorrow night, the weather stays chilly, but dry through Christmas Day.
