APD asks for input on Restore Rundberg Project

Posted: Updated:

The Austin Police Department is asking for help from one Austin neighborhood to help decide how to best use a $1 million grant.

The grant was given to APD by the Department of Justice and will be used to address crimes in the Rundberg neighborhood.

Tuesday, police met with neighbors at Lanier High School to see how they'd like to see it spent.

Chief Art Acevedo says he noticed a lot of young people who came out to share their thoughts.

"One of the things that they expressed as a concern was the burglary at schools, of laptops at schools and stuff. And we've actually set aside $6,000 of grant funding specifically for the young people in the community to help us come up with what we can do with that, "Chief Art Acevedo said.

Acevedo says the goal is to improve the economic growth, quality of life and of course safety of the Rundberg neighborhood.
