A local state lawmaker is in Egypt as part of a U.S. State Department trip to promote democracy. State Representative Jason Isaac ( R ) Dripping Springs, is with a delegation of young political leaders. Last week the group was in Tunisia meeting with government and business leaders.
In a Skype interview with FOX7's Rudy Koski, Representative Isaac said the trip was a rare chance to see emerging democracies growing that part of the world.
"To me it's about economic opportunities we have businesses in Texas that have incredible opportunities here," said Rep Isaac.
Security is tight, especially now that the trip has moved from North Africa and into Egypt.
"After experiencing the few days here of great peace and stability in Tunisia we are a little bit nervous about Egypt" said Isaac.
"Ironically there are travel warnings to Tunisia but there are not to Egypt and we feel very safe in Tunisia but it's in the news and something we hear about on a daily basis so our nerves are pretty high by being in Egypt."
Representative Isaac is the only member of the group from Texas. He will be backing home later this week.
