While Austin Police and the State's Attorney General look into any wrong doing at the Christmas Bureau, its current president is in jail on unrelated charges.
Austin Police arrested 37-year-old Shon Washington following a traffic stop in East Austin Wednesday morning. They say Washington gave a false ID and when the officer did an inventory search of Washington's car, they found somewhere between one and four grams of meth. He was arrested and taken to the Travis County Jail.
Washington may face more legal trouble. More than $26,000 has been deposited in Christmas Bureau bank accounts from private donors recently, but now there's only $210 left.
Last week, a judge froze all of the Christmas Bureau's assets for two weeks, pending an investigation by the Attorney General's Office. Austin Police has also launched a criminal investigation.
Washington was previously arrested in August outside a strip club on a drug possession charge.
Since the Christmas Bureau is currently under investigation APD's Blue Santa is taking over the 1,500 families who are set to receive Christmas gifts. On Wednesday, Whale Shark Media donated $15,000 worth of products towards the program. Blue Santa is still collecting toys and donations and will begin delivering gifts to families on Dec. 15.
