Former Lexington ISD teacher Holly Lopez was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday for having sex with two underage students earlier this year.
Initially, the Travis County District Attorney's Office and Lopez's lawyer agreed to a less harsh sentence.
They agreed to a plea deal that would have seen her serve six months in state jail and then serve ten years on probation.
However, 390th District Judge Julie Kocurek told Lopez she could not agree to the plea bargain.
Lopez was arrested in March when, according to court documents, two eighth graders went to a district police officer wanting the text messages from Lopez to stop. The two children told police that Lopez had been texting with them before she went to one of their homes and had sex with both of them in February.
Lopez was convicted of two counts of indecency with a child by contact. The two four year prison sentences will run concurrently.
Lopez will be eligible for parole after two years. She will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
