Following an investigation by the Texas Attorney General's Office a judge has moved to freeze the assets of the Christmas Bureau and its directors.
The Christmas Bureau is a local charity that has provided toys for needy children at Christmas.
In a petition filed in Travis County Probate Court 1 the Attorney General's Office alleges that the defendants have engaged in false, deceptive and misleading acts and practices in the course of trade and commerce.
The defendants listed in the petition include directors Sohn and Michelle Washington as well as former president William C. Bowman and former director Cynthia Colpaart.
Judge Guy Herman ruled to enforce the a restraining order against the defendants and freeze all of the assets of the Christmas Bureau for two weeks pending an investigation by the Attorney General's Office.
The Attorney General's Office is working with Travis County Constable deputies to determine the location of Sohn and Michelle Washington.
Last week the Austin Police Department announced that it would also conduct a criminal investigation into the charity.
"Our recommendation is do not donate to the Christmas Bureau right now," said Chief Acevedo.
Chief Acevedo said managers with Blue Santa will now step in and Wells Fargo bank has set up a new account for donations.
