Investigators search for answers in the tragedy of a Kansas City Chiefs' linebacker involved a murder/suicide; his victim has local ties to Austin.
NFL Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher is dead after allegedly killing his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, a former student at Anderson High School.
This happened in a domestic dispute, according to Kansas City Police. Police say belcher drove five miles to the team's practice facility, eventually pulling the trigger in front of his coach and general manager.
"The coaches said when he pulled up, and they were never in danger. He never threatened them or anything. They talked for a little bit and that's when he shot himself," said Officer Darin Snapp, Kansas City Police Spokesperson.
According to Austin I-S-D, Perkins attended Anderson High School through 2009. Her loved ones in Austin asked for privacy at this time.
Austin Independent School District released this statement about Perkins' death saying:
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a former student. We extend our deepest condolences to her family."
Authorities have not released a motive for the murder-suicide. Belcher and Perkins had a daughter together.
